I am planning a (roughly) 2 week trip to Japan with my SO this March. We are trying to finalize the order of places we will visit to make our pass go the longest. Here's what I've got:

14: Land in Tokyo 12:00
14-16: Tokyo visit
17: Leave for Ota (Gunma) in the morning
17-19: Ota visit
20: Return to Tokyo to travel to Kitakami Iwate
20-22: Depart Kitakami Iwate, travel to Kyoto
22-25: Kyoto Visit
26: Depart for Tokyo, return flight at 21:00

I was planning on registering for a JR Pass to cover 20-26. Will my JR Pass cover the travel from Tokyo to Kitakami Iwate, from Kitakami Iwate to Tokyo, and from Tokyo to Kyoto and back? Thank you!

Hi,
Yes, the trip is well covered, and you can travel the whole route by bullet train. Although Iwate to Kyoto will take you about 5¾ hours with a faster connection, which is rather long. You should not miss Nara either, and after the temples of Kyoto close down around 5 PM, you can also see Osaka in the evening. At night the city comes alive and has some great places to see, such as Dotonbori, plus the night views from the Umeda Sky Bldg, and Abeno Harukas Bldg are wonderful. On another night, you can also go and see Kobe.

Don't forget on your last day you can still use your pass to go to the airport.

Best of luck.
