Hi,
We are headed to Japan for the first time this Sept and looking for feedback on our itinerary and some suggestions on where to stay Kyoto. It will be for 2 adults and a 3yr old. Toddler has been to Europe, New Caledonia etc so used to travel but don't want to make it too packed.

Sept:
4th: Arrive @ Narita airport 7.10pm - find way to Tokyo stay @ citadines shinjuku (how to get there?)
5th: sightsee Shinjuku area/ Imperial Palace area
6th: Disneyland
7th: East Tokyo
8th: Hakone day trip
9th: West Tokyo
10th (JR Pass 1): To Hiroshima
11th (JR Day2): Hiroshima/Miyajima then Kyoto to sleep
12th (JR Day3): Arashiyama, Kinkaku-Ji, Daitoku-Ji
13th (JR Day4): Nara
14th (JR Day 5): Sth Higashiyama for seiryū-e festival
15th(JR Day 6): Nth Higashiyama
16th(JR Day 7): Kyoto sightsee anything we missed then Narita in evening
17th: Sightsee Narita then depart from airport at 7.55pm to Australia

Is this a good use of the 7 day pass?
Is itinerary doable?
How do we get from Narita to Citadines Shinjuku? (Haven't booked yet but seems reasonably priced and has laundry and cooking facilities)
Any recommendations on where to stay in Kyoto?
Should we go straight to Narita or stay in Tokyo that last night?

Thanks for your help.

Hi there,

1.) Yes, this would be very good use of a 7 day JR Pass and help you make good savings.

2.) Yes, the trip to Hiroshima may be a bit long to do in one go but other than that I do not see any problems.

3.) From Narita airport, you can use the Narita Express to Shinjuku station. For there I'd probable use a taxi the first time to your hotel. Its about 1.6km away and not super close to any metro station. Once you are there it would be easier to figure out how to get around without luggage.

4.) Good area's to stay in are near Goin, Tawaramachi, Shijou. You'll be in the center of it all. You could also stay near Kyoto station, less central but easy access to the train for Arashiyama and Nara.

When a 7.55pm departure from Tokyo, I think it could be nice to spend a bit more time around Tokyo. Maybe do something in the morning get lunch and then slowly start moving towards the airport.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
