Thank you for the help. We're trying to determine how many day pass we will actually need given our time in each city. Ultimately, we're trying to decide if we need it while we're in Tokyo, or if we can get by with the 14 day pass once we leave for Nagano?

Day 1-5 = Tokyo
Day 5-8 = Nagano
Day 8-11 = Takayama/Kanazawa
Day 11-19 = Kyoto/Osaka/Kobe
Day 19-22 = Hiroshima
Day 22-23 = Tokyo (Departure)

Thank you very much for the insight.

Hi there,

The period when you travel the most: Day 5 - Day 22 is longer than 14 days and you travel as good lot. With your itinerary in mind, I would just hop on the 21 day Japan Rail Pass and enjoy the freedom and flexibility it provides you.

The JR Pass can be used on the local JR Network, while local train travel in Tokyo does not cost a lot compared to longer trips, it is still a nice bonus.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
