Hi,

  1. We are a family of 4 arriving in Osaka on October 25. We have bought 7-day JR passes. On October 27, we want to do a day trip to Kyoto and Nara from Osaka, preferably covering Arashiyama. Our hotel in near Shin-Imamiya JR station in Osaka. How should we go about the trip using mostly JR trains and buses? Which place do we go first and how?

  2. On October 28, we would like to do Hiroshima from Osaka. What should we do in Hiroshima?

  3. On October 29, we'll go to Tokyo. How best can the JR pass be used to see Tokyo city? I know it is not valid on Tokyo Metro. Our hotel is in Shinjuku area.

  4. October 30th, we'll do Mt. Fuji. Is Fuji-Q nearby and can it be reached using JR pass? Or should we just be in the Mt. Fuji area only?

  5. We have a free day on October 31. Can you suggest a nearby trip from Tokyo using the JR pass?

thanks,
Sunali

Hi there,

1.) First take a local train to Osaka station, then the train to Kyoto and then a local train to Saga Arashiyama station. You can walk to Arashiyama from here.

2.) I recommend visiting the peace museum and memorial park, eat Okonomiyaki and be sure to visit Miyajima too!

3.) You can use the local JR Network around Tokyo, these includes lines such as the JR Yamanote loop line and JR Chuo central line. There are many more and you can access most area's in Tokyo using the JR Pass.

4.) Fujikyu does not have a JR station nearby, the best option is to take an express bus there from Tokyo. This will not be covered by the JR Pass.

5.) I recommend a visit to Nikko, you can use the JR Pass to travel there most of the way by Shinkansen and it is a very beautiful area to explore. The Tokugawa mausoleum is very impressive.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you so much Daniel-san! This was helpful. Just one more question about the Kyoto-Nara trip:
You are suggesting we first do Kyoto (Fushimi Imari), then Arashiyama and then from Arashiyama we should go to Nara (Todaji and Nara Park)?
Thanks,
Sunali
