Hello,
We are coming to Japan for three weeks in July. I've determined the two week pass will be best based on our overall itinerary (Tokyo-Mt. Fuji-Takayama-Kanazawa-Osaka-Kyoto-Tokyo plus side trips). From Tokyo we are going to Kawaguchiko near Mt. Fuji then want to go to Takayama and Kanazawa. It looks like going to Kawaguchiko will involve the bus. My questions are:
-does the JRPass cover the bus travel to Kawaguchiko? -would it be easier to go from Kawaguchiko to Takayama (via Matsumoto?) next or to Kanazawa? -is the trip via Matsumoto more scenic? -From Takayama we would like to go to Kamakochi. Does the JRPass include the bus lines to get there?

Thank you!

Hi there,

The JR Pass does not include the bus to Shirakawa-go, as it is operated by another company. The same goes to Kamikochi. You can use the JR Pass to travel by rail between Takayama, Matsumoto and Kanazawa.

I also recommend using Google Maps and or Hyperdia to plan your routes in detail, as these are all quite complicated and can take a good amount of time.

Kind regards,
Daniel
