Hi there!
We will be visiting in July in Japan. Flying in Tokyo on the 5th and staying there until the 12th. We are planning to buy a 7 day JRPass to use from Tokyo to Osaka and back to Tokyo on the 17. Is there a JR Pass between Osaka and Kyoto? We will be staying in Osaka but we heard that there is more to see in Kyoto than Osaka? When should we activate the JR Pass so that we can maximize its use? Can we use JRPass to visit Mt. Fuji? Thank you!
Philip
July in Japan
Hi Philip,
The most expensive route is Tokyo - Osaka and travels back to Tokyo. At the very least you should include this in your 7 day JR Pass.
From there, any additional travel you include is a good bonus and will only add to the effectiveness of the JR Pass. For instance, a side trip from Osaka to Nara is nice to include. You could also head all the way to Hiroshima if you feel adventurous.
Fuji needs a bit of planning to get to, you can find the details here:

Hope this helps,
Daniel
