Hi,
Husband and I are travelling to Japan for three weeks in September - October, and this is our itinerary:
Day1-4 Tokyo, arrive in Narita
Day 5-9 Matsumoto, day trip to Hakuba
Day 9 -11 Kanazawa
Day 11-14 Kyoto, day trip to Amanohashidate
Day 14-16 Hiroshima, day trip to Miyajima
Day 16-17 Osaka, fly home from Kansai

What would be the best rail pass for us? Or are single tickets better?

If we buy the 7 days pass, is that only valid for travel 7 consecutive days?

Thank you.

Hi Karianne,

For your itinerary, I would recommend a 14-day Nationwide JR Pass. Since you are staying in Tokyo for the first few days, you can activate the pass on Day 4. This will ensure all your major travel including the long legs to Kanazawa, Hiroshima, and your final trip to Kansai Airport is fully covered.

Please note that for your day trip to Amanohashidate, the JR Pass covers the majority of the route, though a small additional fee is required for the non-JR portion of the track.

And yes, the 7-day JR Pass is valid for seven consecutive days only.

I hope this helps!

Kind Regards,

Mariko
