JR pass activation

For your itinerary, I would recommend activating a 7-day Nationwide JR Pass on 30 April. This will cover your entire journey from Kyoto to Hiroshima and Miyajima, and your return leg to Osaka, Tokyo, and finally Haneda Airport.

Alternatively, you could opt for the Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass (5 days) combined with individual tickets. This pass would cover your travel from Kyoto to Hiroshima, Miyajima, and Osaka.

Please note that these passes are for consecutive days only and remain valid until midnight on the final day.

You are very welcome! The best value for your route is combining a individual ticket from Tokyo to Nagoya with the Takayama-Hokuriku Area Pass. The pass will then cover all your travel from Nagoya to Takayama, Kanazawa, and Kyoto over five consecutive days!

I have acquired the passes you suggested. We chose Green car. What is the process for reserving seats if you have the JR passes? I understand I can use the smartEX app for Tokyo - Nagoya (individual tickets) but seek your advice about reservations in regard to the remainder of our trip when we will use the passes especially Shinkhansen Osaka - Tokyo where definitely I think we would like to reserve.
