Hello Daniel-san,

First of all, this is truly amazing service you're doing for us travelers. Thank you.

For me and my family's itinerary this coming Dec16, of course I would like to figure out if it makes sense to use the JR pass with 4 adults and 1 child (7yo) for a 16day stay. Initial visit to Hyperdia from Narita2 to Shijo stop in Kyoto does not show any JR pass options already (After removing - airplanes, private and the really fast shinkansen). Below are our plans, mostly one area per day:
- Dec16: Narita to Kyoto (Shijo Station) - Dec17-Dec23: Arashiyama park, Nishiki Market, Kiyomizu-Dera, Gion, Kyoto Railway museum, Fushimi-Inari, Iga-Ryu...
- Dec23: Kyoto to Tokyo - Dec24-Dec31: Tokyo Met building, Odabia area, Mount Fuji Tour, Ueno Park, Tsukiji, Ginza, Old Edo, Asakusa area...
- Jan1: Tokyo to Narita

Initial research using Google maps shows that the pricing are close. What I would like to know is, "Can we use the JR pass to go to all the areas we're planning to visit?"

Regards and more power to you,
Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Shijo is a non-jr station and would not show up because of that when you remove private railway. Instead, search for Kyoto station.

For a JR Pass, a 7 day JR Pass would be cost effective if you used it for the return Tokyo (Narita) - Kyoto. However, the period Dec 16th - Dec 23rd is 8 days long and you would fall a day short. A 14 day JR Pass would require more travel to be cost-efficient. I think that for now, it would be best to just buy normal tickets.

You can access nearly all these area's using the JR.

Kind regards,
Daniel
