Hi there Daniel san, we are travelling to Japan in June.

We arrive June 3 into osaka then paln to have two nights there go to Tokyo for 5 nights and possibly do a trip to Mt Fuji before travelling to Nagoya for one night then Kyoto forr 3 nights and back to osaka for 3 nights and possibly do a day trip to Hiroshima before flying out on the 17th.

Does this sound like a good plan? Do you think we would get value from the rail pass doing this?

I really appreciate any advice as I have never been to Japan before.

Hi Justin,

Yes, it sounds like a good plan to me! For the Japan Rail Pass, a 14-day JR Pass would give you rather good value if you add the day trip to Hiroshima. Without going to Hiroshima, it may not be worth it. This may sound strange but a return Osaka - Hiroshima adds up to about 21.000yen, or nearly half the cost of a 14-day JR Pass.

That all being said, I do recommend a visit to Hiroshima. The Hiroshima peace museum is something everyone should visit once in their lifetime and a visit to Miyajima is amazing - one of the most iconic places in Japan.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
