Hello,

I am trying to make plans for my trip from June 27-July 11, 2012. Here is what I have come up with so far. I am wondering if the 14 day pass is worth it for this trip.

June 27/28 - Tokyo

June 29 - Tokyo-Kobe (I have a conference there from June 30- July 1)

July 2 - Kobe-Kyoto

July 3- Kyoto-Mt. Koya

July 4- Mt. Koya - Kanawaza

July 6 -Kanawaza -Shirakawa-go

July 7 - Shirakawa-go-Takayama

July 8 - Takayama-Odawara

July 9 - Odawara-Nikko-Tokyo

July 10-11 - Tokyo with possible day trips.

Does this sound like a reasonable itinerary? Is there anything that I am missing that are must sees?

Thank you very much for your help!

Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Looks like a great trip! The itinerary looks good, and a 14 day JR Pass will give you great savings on this route:

  1. Tokyo > Kobe(hyogo): ¥14270, (229mins, 589km)
  2. Kobe(hyogo) > Kyoto: ¥1050, (55mins, 75km)
  3. Kyoto > Osaka: ¥540, (28mins, 42km)
  4. Osaka > Kanazawa: ¥7440, (169mins, 267km)
  5. Takayama > Odawara: ¥16910, (294mins, 559km)
  6. Odawara > Nikko: ¥8990, (159mins, 233km)
  7. Nikko > Tokyo: ¥5430, (117mins, 150km)

TOTAL: ¥54630 for 7 legs

At ¥45,100, the 14 day rail pass will give you savings of ¥9530 over tickets. Please note that travel up to Mt Koya, Shirakawago and Hakone will not be covered by the JR Pass.

Hope this helps!
