Hi

We are 4 adults travelling in Japan for roughly 2 weeks - wondering if JR pass worthwhile? Also does the pass work within Tokyo and Kyoto city or is it better to buy a separate train/subway pass for the time spent in Tokyo, and time in Kyoto - any suggestions how to do this?

Three people will be in Tokyo for 2 nights, one person will be in Tokyo for 1 night before we meet up to start travelling as below:

Day 1 (with all four people) Tokyo to
Karuizawa 3 nights
Hakone 3 nights
Kanazawa 3 nights
Kyoto 4 nights
then fly out from Osaka Kansai International airport Day 14

thanks!

Hi there,

I tried to match a JR Pass to your itinerary but must say that it is quite hard. I think the best option would be to use normal tickets or possibly look at using a Hokuriku Arch Ticket. Let us know if you wish to buy one and we will start the process.

The most expensive routes are Hakone - Kanazawa and Kanazawa to Kyoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daneil,

Would you be able to clarify which part of my itinerary can we use the hokuriku arch ticket?
How soon before arriving in Japan should I buy? We are travelling in Oct.

Also is there a pass similar to JR pass for tokyo /kyoto for the 3-4 days we are in each of these cities?

Thanks

Aurora
