Hi,

my family of 4adult is going to Japan in October. we will be landing and depart from Narita airport. This is our plan itinerary and would like some help on calculating whether we get 14days JR pass or buy tickets as we go

  1. arrive in Narita airport (stay overnight) next morning travel from Narita airport to Nagano
  2. stay in Nagano 3 days , explore area and day trip to suwa
  3. matsumoto for 2 days and is this enough to include kamikochi?
  4. takayama or kanazawa for 2nights?? depending on which area is better to travel to osaka
  5. from either Takaya or Kanazawa to OSAKA
  6. OSAKA 3 nights
  7. tranvel direct from OSAKA to kawaguchiko for 3nights ( does it take 5hr from osaka to kawaguchiko by shinkansen? oh how do a break the journey to reduce travelling time)

  8. from Kwaguchiko to tokyo for 5nights. we may do day trip to hiroshima but not sure yet.

your recommendation is greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

I calculated the cost of your itinerary, a 14 day Japan Rail Pass and you would make savings if you include the trip to Hiroshima. However it would be somewhat cheaper to buy normal tickets if you would not visit Hiroshima.

I think Kanazawa is a better place to stay, it is much easier to reach from Nagano and you can also take the train directly from Kanazawa to Osaka.

There's no real faster way from Osaka to Kawaguchiko, I recommend visiting Hakone instead, which is much easier to reach by Shinkansen and offers way more variety in things to do/see.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
