Hi Daniel,

I would like to seek your help on my itinerary as follows.
Q1: For Day 6, would it make sense to stay at Osaka and do day trips to Shiga prefecture instead of staying at Kyoto/Otsu?
Q2: I will be purchasing the Kansai Hiroshima pass. When will be a good period to use the pass - would it be Day 4 - Day 8 where most of the intercity travel will happen, and buy single tickets for other trips? Would you recommend other passes that could cover my trip (ie. more days covered as compared to the K-H pass which is valid only for 5 days)? Or would Day 2 - 6 on K-H pass and another pass to cover Day 7 - 10 make sense?

Day 1 (20 Oct): Fly in Hiroshima (Stay in Hiroshima City)
Day 2 (21 Oct): Hiroshima – Miyajima day trip
Day 3 (22 Oct): Hiroshima city tour
Day 4 (23 Oct): Hiroshima to Tottori (Stay near Tottori station)
Day 5 (24 Oct) : Explore Tottori
Day 6 (25 Oct): Tottori to Kyoto / Otsu (Stay in Kyoto / Otsu City?)
Day 7 (26 Oct): Explore Shiga (Hikone & Nagahama)
Day 8 (27 Oct): Kyoto/Otsu to Osaka
Day 9 (28 Oct): Osaka – Kobe day trip
Day 10 (29 Oct): Osaka – Himeji day tip
Day 11 (30 Oct): Fly out Osaka

Thank you!

Sorry, 1 more question.
All these trips (except for travel within cities) are covered under K-H pass right?
Could you also illustrate how I can get from Hiroshima to Tottori as the suggestions online looks complicated? Or would it be better for me to travel to Tottori from Osaka/Kyoto instead (this is still covered under K-H pass?)?

Hi there,

Sorry for the delay in answer, as this post already had a reply - I thought it was answered.

That out of the way, let me answer your questions.

1.) Otsu is closer to Kyoto, to save travel time it would make sense to stay near Kyoto but you could also stay along lake Biwa, which can be very beautiful.

2.) The first big trip you'll do in terms of JR ticket cost is to Tottori, I would start using the pass on this day.

3.) The best route is to take the Shinkansen from Hiroshima to Okayama, then the Super Inaba express to Tottori. Route takes 1 transfer and about 160 minutes.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
