Hello there,
We arrive Tokyo on 7th May and leaving on 20th May, 14 day, 13 nights total.
7th May to 10th Tokyo
10 to 11 May Osaka - 2 nights , a day trip here to Kobe?
12-16 May Kyoto - 5 nights with a night to experience ryokan?
17 - 18 May - 1 night to mt fuji ( hakone area?) need Hakone free pass to do the boat, cable car
19 May - kanazawa?
20 May Tokyo - Narita airport for journey home (flight at 4.30pm)

Is this itinerary too rush? Should we get the 14 days Jr national pass? Does Jr pass covers Kanazawa?

Looking forward to your advice, Much thanks.

Hi Gail,

A 14 day JR Pass would be good if you end up going to Kanazawa. Did you want to do it as a day trip from Tokyo or stay the night there? It may be too much as a day trip but I think it would be a nice visit if you can stay there for a night or two.

The JR Pass would cover the full route and you can even use the superfast Kagayaki Shinkansen.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hello Daniel-san
Thank you for your response. It certainly helped me to make the decision on the JR pass. Originally we are going to stay for 2 nights at Kanazawa but we felt we don't have enough days. What are the top interest that one must see for a night in Kanazawa? Our main interests for our travel to Japan is to experience the culture, tradition and the cuisine. Should we then stay only a night in Hakone area and then have a night in Kanazawa? Or should we just skipped Kobe? Or should we just do a few areas and re visit Japan another year?
By the way do we need to get the IC -suica card for this trip?

Kind Regards,
Gail

Hi Gail,

I'd say Kanazawa, Kobe and Hakone are all worth visiting. Personally I'd always have had a love for Kanazawa. The castle, local Geisha quarter and Kenroku-en garden are all well worth seeing. You can also make a visit from Kanazawa to Shirakawa-go. Then again that's personal, Hakone is magical it its own sense and I always found Kobe charming for its many hidden secrets.

So pick one to enjoy and then have an excuse to come-back later to Japan.

An IC card is always handy to have.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
