Hakone to Kyoto

Hi Daniel
I have decided on the below itinerary, and am wondering if I need to travel back to Tokyo, to go out to kyoto after visiting hakone, or if there is a direct way to travel from hakone to kyoto using JR pass?

tokyo (3 nights, stay in tokyo bay for 2 days of disneyland)
nikko (2 nights)
tokyo (4 nights)
hakone (2nights)
kyoto (4 nights)

Can you please help by letting me know JR pass travel times for each of these too? I need to book accomodation tomorrow as we leave in 1 week!

Hi Kylie,

You can reach Kyoto directly from Hakone using the Japan Rail Pass. The Shinkansen station for Hakone is called Odawara, take local transport from within Hakone to Odawara and then get on the Shinkansen there. Note that there are only a limited amount of direct trains to Kyoto per day, so plan ahead.

For travel times, I recommend learning to plan with Hyperdia this way you can find any route/timetable and more. It's a great tool for planning with the JR Pass. We also have a useful interactive map with all JR lines included.
