Hi,

First time travellers to Japan (September 3rd - September 18th) LHR > NRT

I was just wondering if this itinerary would work?

Tokyo Narita > Hiroshima (3rd - 6th)
Hiroshima > Kyoto (6th - 9th)
Kyoto > Shinjuku (9th - 17th)
Shinjuku > Tokyo Narita (17th)

Arriving in Tokyo Narita September 3rd at 09:00 - Purchased a rail pass and will be collecting at the station.

Then plan is to travel straight to Hiroshima and stop there until 6th September and then Travel to Kyoto and stop there until the 9th September. After this we will be heading into central Tokyo and staying there for the remainder of the trip.

We are purchasing the 14 day JR Pass which will run out on the 17th but we will travel to the airport on this day and stay in a hotel overnight.

Is there anything else I need to know about travelling in Japan also? I've read about tattoos in Japan and I have two full sleeves and the start of a leg piece but all can easily be covered. Am i going to have any issues with this?

Thank you.

Liam.

Hi Liam,

Your itinerary looks good to me, travel from Tokyo - Hiroshima does take about 6 hours by train, so bring something to keep yourself entertained.

Regarding Tattoos, you may have issues with these when entering public baths (onsen) but this is basically the only instance where you could be refused on having tattoos. If you really want to experience an onsen, then using a private bath is likely the best option. I would not expect any other problems.

Kind regards,
Daniel
