Hi,
I will visit Japan for the first time this November and need some help navigating the train system. After spending 2 days in Gora, Hakone, I will travel from Gora Station to Kyoto Station. I see that it is no easy feat getting from Gora to Odawara, which is the train station I believe I need to get to in order to board a bullet train to Kyoto. Assuming I'm correct, I also see that there is a bullet train called the Hikari, which leaves from Odawara at 10:08 and stops in Kyoto. Here is my question. According to Hyperdia, there are not a lot of direct trains form Odawara to Kyoto. It looks like the vast majority make you transfer at a station along the way. Is this true or am I missing something? I'm using Hyperdia, which is great, but I'm hoping that you can give me advice about the most efficient way to get from Gora to Kyoto with as few transfers as possible.
Thanks,
Christy

Hi there,
This is correct, only a few Hikari Services stop at Odawara. To get from Gora to Odawara, first take the Hakone-Tozan line to Hakone-Yumoto and then a local service to Odawara.
You pretty much already figured out how it works but I can see that it seems difficult.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
