Exchanging voucher at Narita Airport

Hi - my husband and I will be travelling to Japan for the first time in November 2018.
We arrive at narita airport at 8:15pm on a Sunday into Terminal 3.

Instead of travelling into Tokyo late that first night, we are thinking of staying at a hotel near the airport and then travelling into Tokyo the next day (Monday).

Would it be best to get the hotel shuttle bus from airport to hotel and then get it back to the airport the next morning to pick up the JR pass? If so, what terminal is best to get shuttle to so we can arrange pass and then travel to Tokyo?

we will be travelling: narita to Tokyo, Tokyo to Kyoto, Kyoto to nara (return) and then Kyoto to narita. If we commence it on Monday morning, when is expiry date/time of 7 day pass?

thank you

Hi there,

I think staying the first night near Narita is a good idea. You could visit Narita city and temple if you have some time left.

The JR Pass would expire at the end of Sunday when activated on a Monday.

For activating the JR Pass at Narita Airport please see:

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you - would you be able to clarify where we would need to go at narita airport the next morning to activate the pass? If we get the hotel shuttle back to the airport would there be an office there considering that this would effectively be a departure area as opposed to an arrival area? Is the office outside of the arrival area so that we can access it when we go back to the airport?

From what I can see we would be struggling for time to activate the pass on the Sunday night going by the times that the offices are open on a Sunday night - taking into account that we don't get in until 8:15 (if on time) and then have to go through immigration and customs.

thanks again

Hi again,

The office is called the JR East travel office. It is quite easy to find at Narita Airport, as long as you follow the signs with railways. Then you really can't miss it. It is outside of the arrivals (actually 1 level below) area.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
