This is my itinerary that I would like to achieve using a 7 day pass. I'm also wanting to know how to use the HyperDia so that I can figure out what trains I can use with the JR pass.
Also can anyone tell me if they still have a subway pass for 600 yen for the day? you can use around Tokyo?
and if they do is there anything like this in Kyoto or would I just use my JR pass for local tourist spots?

Day 1-3 Tokyo
Day 3 Tokyo - Hakone (START DAY 1 on pass) ?
Day 4 Hakone to Kyoto
Day 5-9 Kyoto with day trips to Nara, Osaka, Himeji and maybe Hiroshima
Day 10 Kyoto to Tokyo (DAY 7 HEAD BACK TO TOKYO)
Day 10-14 Tokyo with day trips to Disney and maybe Nikko

Hi there,

For travel times, I recommend learning to plan with Hyperdia this way you can find any route/timetable and more. It's a great tool for planning with the JR Pass. We also have a useful interactive map with all JR lines included. Here you'll find the details on using it.

You can indeed buy day passes for the Tokyo Metro if you plan to explore the city. These cost 750yen one day, although there are sometimes cheaper promotions available.

Kyoto is mostly explored by bus. You can buy a 500yen day ticket from the bus driver. One bus ride has a flat fee of 230yen, so making savings is easy.

Using your JR Pass to go to Kyoto and back to Tokyo is where you can most savings. Note that the pass is counted in days and the first day is counted as a full do. Meaning that if you'd activate it on Day 3, then the last day of use is Day 9. My advice is to activate on day 4 and then have your last day on Day 10.
