My friend and I are departing on the 30th and arriving the 31st in Tokyo. From Tokyo we will be heading out to Hiroshima and staying 2 days. From Hiroshima-Osaka (5 days). Osaka-Kyoto (4 days). Kyoto-Tokyo (9 days). We will be taking small half day detours to Kobe and Himeji Castle. We're basically jumping around quite a bit. But were also getting Suica cards for subways and trains that arent covered by the JR Pass. The activities we have planned are around the central cities of each prefecture. So my main concern is do we really need to buy the 21 day JR Pass or will we be good with a 14 day pass since we'll be spending our remainder days in Tokyo and surround cities?
20 days in Japan

Hi there,
A 14 day JR Pass will be fine if you only stay around Tokyo for the days that you would not have the pass. Local travel around Tokyo does not cost a lot and you could use your Suica there to get around without problem or spending a lot.
That said, add a day trip or two from Tokyo and the 21 day JR Pass would be quickly worth it. Think of Nikko, Sendai or even Nagano.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
