Here is our itinerary for 4 people for April. Please advise if it's best to go for a combination of Kansai regional Pass and Takayama one and pay for extra days as we go, or whether JRP is best and which one? Also does this itinerary seem feasible?
11-14 April Narita-Tokyo with round trips to Maihama 13, Kamakura 14
15 Takayama
16-17 Kanazawa
18-21 Kyoto
22 Nara
23 Koyasan
24 Himeji
25 Kyoto?
26 Hakone
27 Tokyo
29 Narita
Thanks in advance

Hi there,

Looking at Japan Rail Pass options for your plan, I would use a 14 day JR Pass for travel from Day 14 to Day 27. This would allow you to do all your travel before returning to Tokyo and even add in the day trip to Kamakura. All while you'll be making great savings at the same time.

I did check regional passes for you are well, but there is none that would match your travel and help you make savings. So a Japan Rail Pass is the better option.

Some notes on usage: Not all travel to Koya-san is covered by the JR Pass. More details can be found here.

The same goes for travel within Hakone.

Hope this helps :)
Daniel
