Hi, we are planning to go to japan in January. Everything is set except for the rail passes.
We are going to Tokyo, Mt. Fuji, Kyoto and Osaka.
Please advise which rail pass to purchase with a lesser cost.
Thank you.

Hi Jerica,

It depends on how many days you plan to travel but a 7 day JR Pass would be a good start.

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

we are planning to stay for 7 days, inclusive of the arrival and departure.
i have used the JR fare calculator. according to it my itinerary will cost 16,900 JPY while if i buy a JR Pass it will be 29,110 JPY. i will save an amount of 12,210 JPY if i will able to identify which correct rail passes to buy.

Destinations are below:
Narita Airport Terminal 2
Tokyo
Kyoto
Osaka
Kansai Airport

appreciate your advise.

Thanks in advance.

Hi again,

I assumed that you would return to Tokyo but it would indeed be cheaper to buy normal tickets for this route.

There is no rail pay to pays of when you just travel one way Tokyo - Kansai.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
