Hello,

I am taking a 10 day trip to Japan starting on May 19th. We will be going from Tokyo to Kyoto. Then Kyoto to Hakone. Then Hakone back to Tokyo. We also plan on taking some day trips, Kyoto to Osaka etc. Which JR pass should I buy? My main concern is quick means of travel as I am looking to get from place to place in a relatively short amount of time, and I know Japan's public transport is the best in the world.

Thanks!
Jason

Hi Jason,

I don't think you'll have any problems traveling around. The longest trip, Tokyo - Kyoto is about 3 hours. You should have plenty of time even on that day for other things.

I think a 7 day JR Pass matches your itinerary best but you would have to use it from Tokyo - Kyoto - Hakone - Tokyo and be in Tokyo by the last day of the pass. I think this is reasonable as it would leave you with at least 3 days in Tokyo.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
