Value in purchasing a JR Pass for some or all of our journeys?

We (3 people) will be travelling around Japan using a mix of train and buses over three weeks starting mid October.

Does it make sense to purchase a rail card to cover any of the following itinerary? If so, which pass would make sense?

Also, is there any discount for over 60s, and a 22 year old?

Itinerary:

17/10 - Toyko (including airport) x 3 days
20/10 - Tokyo to Hiroshima
22/10 - Hiroshima to Onomichi
23/10 - Hashihama to Onomichi (end of cycling islands)
24/10 - Onamichi to Kyoto
25-27/10 - day trips from Kyoto, including Nara
28/10 - Kyoto to Tanabe
29/10 - 2/11 - walking Komodo trail (Kii peninsula)
3/11 - Kii Katsura to Tanabe then onto Osaka
4/11 - Osaka to Kanazawa
6/11 -Kanazawa to Tokyo
7/11 - to Airport

Appreciate your help in finding the most cost effective solution to travel.
Thanks
