Hi goodday Daniel san, pls help us on this, we - family of 4 (2 teenagers) will be traveling from 11-18 March, planning from Tokyo ( reach Haneda aiport).. From there should we straight go to Osaka first or stay a night in Tokyo then head to Osaka next day? Reaching Tokyo around 4-5pm time, our plan is stay more days in Tokyo than Osaka. And our last night stay must be in Tokyo as aiport is Haneda. Also taking trains or monorials are rather confusing to us, how do we go about? We are open to any option for this trip as we don't have any itinerary or what so ever yet, maybe you wanna recommend? Thanks!

Hi there,

I suggest staying the first night in Tokyo, going to Osaka on the same day feels very busy and you may not even make it in case of a flight delay.

To get into Tokyo from Haneda, take the Monorail from Haneda Airport to Hamamatsucho. Here you can use the Yamanote loop line into Tokyo, stopping at many important station, including Tokyo station, Shinjuku, Ikebukero, Ueno and more.

Also see this post: On how to reserve tickets and board the bullet train.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi again!

There are different Shinkansen services, for instance on the Tokaido Shinkansen there is the Nozomi, the Hikari and the Kodama. The Nozomi services makes the least stops and therefor is the fastest train. The Hikari and Kodama stop and more stations. This is the main difference between them, the JR Pass does not include the Nozomi service.

In other words all shinkansen routes are included in the JR Pass but not all train services (the Nozomi and Mizuho) are included.
