Hi, Four of us will be travelling through japan in December. 3 of us from Australia meeting up with our son in Japan, who has been volunteering and therefore he is not able to get JR pass. I am not sure whether we should get JR passes for our trip or whether we should just get individual tickets for each leg. Our itinerary is as follows, and accommodation is already booked so need to go in this order. We are staying in each spot for a few days and therefore will want to see the sights so would need subway etc. Please I am looking for some advice as it seems confusing to try to work out what will be best. Thanks.

Tokyo (Shinjuku) 3 days
Osaka (Dotonbori) 3 days
Kyoto 3 days
Hakone (Gora) 2 days
Hakuba (Echoland) 3 days
Tokyo (Shibuya) 4 days.

Any advice and help will be greatly appreciated,

Thanks.

Hello there,

While the difference is small, it would be more economic here to buy normal tickets as you travel instead of using a JR Pass.

You can find the cost of tickets or even the cost of your itinerary, using our JR Fare calculator.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
