Hello there-

I am planning a 6 day trip.
My itinerary includes the ff:
Day 1. Arrival in Narita
Day 2. Tour around Tokyo
Day 3. Tour around Tokyo
Day 4. Tour in Sapporro. Back to Tokyo at night
Day 5. Tour in Osaka, mainly USJ. Back to Tokyo at night.
Day 6. Tour in the morning. Then Departure from Narita at night.

Quick questions:

Is the JR pass usable within the Tokyo?

Is it also usable within or near Sapporro?

What time is the last train ( shinkansen ) from osaka to tokyo?

Any reccomendations within those dates and places?

Thanks.

Please advise.

Hi there,

The JR Pass would give you outstanding value for this trip but I recommend checking travel times before first. For instance going to Tokyo - Sapporo takes around 7 hours of travel one way. You would not have a lot of time to walk around if it is possible at all. Same for Osaka, while a day trip is possible you'd spend at least 6 hours on the train.

You can check time tables via www.hyperdia.com

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hi,
No, one way is about 3 hours on a Hikari bullet train. You were asking about a day trip to Osaka, so 6 hours total. I'd recommend an overnight in Osaka if you really want to go there.

Uh ok. Thanks daniel...
I just learned today that i got my tourist visa.. Yay.

Btw. Last question. I was informed that JR pass could only be purchased abroad. But, lately, i see some notes on other forum that it can be purchase now at the JR counter in Tokyo. Is that correct?...

Hi Pai,

That's good news! :D

Yes, there is a pilot now where you can buy the JR Pass at a limited amount of stations in Japan.

The price in Japan is 10-20% higher, so I would still advise buying it beforehand.

Kind regards,
Daniel
