Tokyo to Osaka in September

Wondering if it's worth getting the 7 day rail pass or not? I've read so many different things and it's all a bit confusing.
I don't know if the JR Pass is for quick train rides or more so regional trains? If so, I figure I'd be better off getting the 7 day pass and using for when we leave Tokyo? Then using whatever there general system is for everyday use when travelling around Tokyo? Itinerary is basically this:
Tokyo > Osaka
(01/09) - Land at Tokyo Narita International Airport, check into hotel in Tokyo, explore Tokyo/Shibuya (02/09) - Explore Tokyo/Akihabara (03/09) - Ueno Zoo & Robot Restaurant (04/09) - Disneyland (05/09) - Check out of hotel in Tokyo, go to Osaka, check into hotel in Osaka then explore (06/09) - Go to Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan and Nara (07/09) - Universal Studios (08/09) - Hiroshima (09/09) - Check out of hotel, travel back to Tokyo Narita International Airport

Hi there,

The best value with the JR Pass is when you use it for longer trips. Like going from Tokyo - Osaka. Local JR lines are covered as well.

The trips in your itinerary that cost the most by far are Tokyo - Osaka, Osaka - Hiroshima - Osaka, and Osaka - Narita Airport. I recommend using a 7-day Japan Rail Pass to cover these trips, it will help you make very good savings compared to buying normal tickets. Additionally, you can use the JR Pass for local travel, for instance to Nara and USJ.

Hope this helps :)
