Hey!

I am traveling to Japan from Feb 26- March 5th. I'll be flying into Haneda International with my boyfriend and staying in a hotel in Sinjuku from Sunday to Tuesday then heading to Kyoto. We are heading back to Tokyo Friday morning and staying at the Hotel Mystays Premier Omori near the Airport Friday night.

What is the best way to get from the airport to Sinjuku, Sinjuku to Kyoto, and Kyoto to the Omori in Sinagawa Ward?
Should we get the JR Pass or buy single train tickets?

Also, do you recommend Taxis or the Subways around Tokyo and Kyoto?

If you have any information on the Tokyo Marathon, is there a certain place that is a good viewing point for this for tourists? My brother is running this year so we want to make sure we see him running.

Thank you so much.

Hello there,

A 7 day JR Pass is recommended if you can use it for the return trip between Tokyo - Kyoto and back. The cost of a return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen is about the same as a 7 day JR Pass. With the JR Pass you get 7 days of unlimited JR travel for the same price.

For travel from Haneda Airport - Shinjuku using the JR Pass, take the Tokyo Monorail from Haneda Airport to Hamamatsuchō (the last station for the Monorail) ~20minutes, from Hamamatsuchō take the JR Yamanote line to Shinjuku station.

From Shinjuku - Kyoto, take the JR Chuo line to Tokyo station, at Tokyo station board the Hikari bullet train Shinkansen to Kyoto.

From Kyoto - Shinagawa, take the Hikari Shinkansen to Shinagawa station (just one stop from Tokyo station).

I have not been to the Tokyo Marathon myself, so I am not sure what the best spot would be.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
