Hi there, this is my first time my family and I are traveling to Japan and we have quite a number of queries regarding the transportation and places of interest. Firstly, when traveling from Kansai Airport to Fukuoka (Hakata Station), is it better to take the Japan Rail (JR) or a plane? Next when in Fukuoka, is it better to buy the Kyushu JR pass or are there any other suggested ways to explore? I'm also not very familiar with the Kyushu area as the travel guides are vague, so could you suggest some great places to explore please? Thank you!
Some suggestions regarding travel in Japan :)
Hi there,
Let's have a look at your questions.
Firstly, when travelling from Kansai Airport to Fukuoka (Hakata Station) is it better to take the Japan Rail (JR) or a plane? Better in what way? Flying will be faster but the JR is more comfortable and cheaper if you used a JR Pass.
Next when in Fukuoka, is it better to buy the Kyushu JR pass or are there any other suggested ways to explore? It depends on where you wish to travel. If you wish to stay in Kyushu then look at a JR Kyushu Pass. If you want to see more of Japan, use a nation wide JR Pass.
I'm also not very familiar with the Kyushu area as the travel guides are vague, so could you suggest some great places to explore please? Some great visits include, Mount Aso (for Hiking). Kagoshima, nice city at the south of Kyushu with a wonderful view of Sakurajima and base for day trips to Amami and Ibutsuki. Beppu and Yufuin, both are famous onsen (Japanese bathing) resorts. Fukuoka itself is also a really nice city to visit, its like little Tokyo. Not as busy but with all the conveniences. Nagasaki has a lot of historical importance and is also a pleasant harbour town.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
