Greetings oh wise JR Pass wizards,

I am not sure if I need the full 21 JR pass for my trip. I am pretty flexible with my tokyo period and I think I will only need the pass once I start journeying down from hakodate to tohoku.

itinerary:
Day 1 - Chitose Airport/Sapporo
Day 2 - Sapporo`
Day 3 - Otaru
Day 4 - Hakodate
Day 5 - Aomori/Hirosaki
Day 6 - Sendai
Day 7 - Sendai/Onagawa
Day 8 - Tokyo
Day 9 - Tokyo
Day 0 - Tokyo
Day 11 - Tokyo
Day 12 - Tokyo
Day 13 - Tokyo
Day 14 - Tokyo
Day 15 - Hankone
Day 16 - Kawazu
Day 17 - Shimoda
Day 18 - Gifu
Day 19 - Osaka
Day 20 - Osaka/Nara
Day 21- Osaka/Kobe
Day 22 - Osaka/Kyoto
Day 23 - Osaka/Kyoto
Day 24 - Osaka
Day 25 - Osaka/Kansai Airport

Ahoy there JR traveler in training!

Going from Sapporo/Otaru - Hakodate is quite a long and expensive trip already, my advice would be to start using the JR Pass there, on day 4. From there you would pretty much have a JR Pass for the rest of your trip, expect for the last (25). So that's how I'd use the JR Pass. You could add a day trip from Kansai to Himeji or Hiroshima is you want to get even better value out of the pass.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
