Questions about travel

1.) The JR Pass covers the JR Network in Tokyo as well, including many local lines. Such as the JR Yamanote Loop line and JR Chuo (central) line. You can use these to travel to most major places like Shinjuku station and Ginza. (For Ginza travel to the station called Yurakucho on the JR Yamanote line).

2.) The price depends on how many days you rent. Here is our pricing and further details on Pocket WiFi.

3.) It depends on the line and station but as a general rule, public transport shuts down around midnight and resumes the following morning around 6.

4.) It is basically 1st class and 2nd class, as you may find elsewhere in the world.

The truth is that with a one way plan like yours, you would neither make a 7 or 14 day pass pay off, unless you added some side trips. If you're only going from Tokyo to Kansai one way, no rail pass would be worthwhile for you and you should just buy regular tickets, or to save a little there is the Platt Kodama ticket.

Thank you Daniel-san for the information. One last thing. Does JR pass covers Shinkansen as well?

As for Toraneko, for side trips, do you mean other cities or prefacture? cause my main focus will be Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. And since the JR lines covers travel to major places such as Shinjuku as well.

So you recon it will be cheaper or more effective if i just regular tickets throughout the 14 days? It will be great if there's a more cost effective approach.

Of course the JR Pass covers the shinkansen also, but you cannot ride the Nozomi or Mizuho shinkansen with it.

For side trips, I mean other places in the area - mostly far enough away in some other prefecture. For Tokyo, there are many, such as Hakone or the Fuji 5 Lakes area, Karuizawa, Kusatsu, Izu, Kamamura/Enoshima, Kawagoe, Takao, Okutama, the Hitachi Seaside Park, or even Sendai.

From the Kansai area, there is Hiroshima and Miyajima, Himeji, Amanohashidate, etc.

If you don't add anything, a JR Pass for a one way trip would be a big waste of money. You can easily check if you'll break even on a pass with this rail pass calculator.
