one-way trip between Shin-Osaka and Sendai

I've been trying to work out how to use Shinkansen between Shin-Osaka and Sendai for days, very frustrated as I could only come up with 2 unsatisfying ways to make a one-day trip from Shin-Osaka to Sendai.

One is buying a 7-day JR Pass, the other is buying a 5-day ticket from JR West, another ticket from JR central, and a ticket from JR East. Which ends up paying very much just for one-way trip.

Here I would like to ask for some help to work out what's the most cost-efficient way to make this trip.

Thank you all for the help in advance.

Hi there,

The only way to do this using any pass, is use a Japan Rail Pass (nation wide). There is no regional pass that covers this route.

A 7 day is likely the best choice, depending on your other travels. A return Sendai - Osaka will already make you good savings compared to purchasing normal tickets.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hey, Daniel

Thank you so very much for helping out. :)

As you suggest, a 7 day ticket seems to be my best shot!
Altho I'm not returning to Osaka but Tokyo instead. I think it'd still worth it, isn't it?

On the other hand, I was browsing for the package deal (your know those JR shinkansen + lodging).
Somehow these package deals are all roundtrip type.
I wonder if there's any one-way trip with JR shinkansen + lodging existing. Have you ever come across with this sort?

Again, your genuine help is deeply appreciated.

Hi Yukie,

I must say that I generally use the JR Pass or some local pass to get around and haven't had any experience with package deals. There are however cheaper options like Kodama flat plan or buying fares in advance. There is however very little information about these available in English and you will likely need a helping hand navigating Japanese websites.

It will still be cheaper to have a 7 day JR Pass than buy normal tickets Osaka - Tokyo - Sendai - Tokyo.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi, Daniel

I'm quite confused with the valid time frame of a 7 day ticket.
I tried to locate the specific rule on this site and the others, do find some example, which says "if you have a 7 days Japan Rail Pass and you start using it on March 1st, whatever the time, this will count as day 1, and you will be able to use until March 7th midnight." OR "For example if you activate a 7-Day Pass at 1pm on 1st July, it will expire at midnight on 7th."

BUT,
In 24-hour time notation, "0:00" and "0:00:00" refer to midnight at the start of a given date. Some styles, such as ISO 8601, allow 24:00 to refer to the end of a day. Noon is 12:00:00.

So, I wonder if this "midnight" is the start OR the end?
As I'm trying to work out the expiry date if I've my ticket activated on 20th of Jan.

Sorry to trouble you again and again thank you for your helping out.

Hi Yukie,

When you activate the JR Pass on the 20th of Jan, your pass would expire on the 26th of Jan 23:59.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
