Hi,

I am planning to travel with my wife and 2.5 yrs old kid. I have 2 days conference in Narita during last week of April'18. Is it advisable to travel from Narita to Tokyo after 17:00? I'm planning to extend my stay for another 6 days, so my tentative itinerary is:

Day 1&2 : Narita (9.00-17:00 conference) evening explore Narita - Please advise places I can visit with Kid
Day 3 – Either travel from Narita to Hiroshima or is there any option on Day 2 night travel to Hiroshima? How much time will it take and advisable travel options? Also, is it recommended to travel with luggage or is there any option to keep out luggage in Narita as most probably we will fly back from Narita - Intend to take JR pass, will it cover all the travel places mentioned below?
Day 3: (assume night travel on Day 2) – explore Hiroshima: Peace Memorial Museum, Miyajima (any other suggestions?)
Day 4 – Hiroshima to Osaka: Universal Studios, Aquarium (possible?)
Day 5- Osaka to Kyoto: Fushimi Inari, Kinkaku-ji etc (any other suggestion?)
Day 6 - Kyoto to Tokyo: Meiji Shrine/ Nara/ Todaiji (as time allows & explore in the night: please suggest must see places)
Day 7: Disneyland, Disney Sea (explore in the night: please suggest good to see places)
Day 8: Ueno park and Zoo (if possible explore in the night: please suggest okay to visit places)
Day 9: Return

I’m looking at infant friendly places. Could you please advise on the stay options in each place mentioned above? I’m looking at Airbnb, but is it advisable? Also, my wife is vegetarian, so any veg/Indian food outlet suggestions? Would recommend to take a guided tour instead? If yes, which are the options available? I can add another day if I shouldn’t miss out something. Any other tips will be much appreciated, like climate, must carry things etc.

Look forward for your help. Thank you!

Hello there,

Traveling to Tokyo after 17:00 is no problem at all. There are different options you can use, the fastest and most comfortable is the Narita Express. This train is also included in the JR Pass.

You can travel from either Narita Airport or Tokyo from Hiroshima using the Shinkansen. Getting luggage on board is no problem if you have a suitcase or two. From Hiroshima, you can visit all the cities you plan to. Just keep an eye on the map as you go. For instance, visit Nara before going back to Tokyo.

April is the best time to travel in Japan, the weather will be good and you can experience the Cherry blossom. That does mean many other people will be traveling, so book your accommodations beforehand. Personally I am not a big fan of tours. They can certainly be nice but doing it yourself gives you much more freedom and often saves you a nice bit of money in the process. It does however mean doing extra research and that's also the best tip I can give you. We all have our own preferences and budget, for instance if you like vegetarian food try searching for vegetarian blogs about Japan. Japan for instance is not an easy country, as vegetarian food is literally a foreign concept for them. That said, when searching around you can find some gems there.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you, Daniel! that's a valuable help.

So I hope I can cover all the places I mentioned above. Noted the food advise. I'm wondering if I need to get a JR pass for 2.5 yrs old kid. In the site I can see children above 6, does that mean children below 6 are free and no JR Pass required? Again, much appreciated for the help!
