We are planning a trip to Japan for 7 nights our itinerary is as follows:

We arrive in Narita and will head to Tokyo - spend two nights visiting.

Early in the morning following the second night, we were planning to go to Lake Kawaguchi for one night - what is the best way to get there? I saw there is a bus from Shinjuku at 6am and every hour after.

The following night, go to Kyoto and spend 2 nights there - what is the best way to get to Kyoto from Lake Kawaguchi?

Head back to Tokyo for 2 nights - or would you suggest a nice stop on the way there for one night, and then spend the last night in Tokyo before heading to Narita?

Also, for all this travel, does it make sense to buy a JP Rail Pass? (does it include metro in Tokyo?)

Can we buy the rail pass at Narita?

Thanks for your help !! looking forward to the trip!

Hi there,

For travel to Kawaguchiko, please see:
http://www.jrpass.com/blogs/itinerary-tip-mt-fuji#Access%20to%20Kawaguchiko

For your return to Tokyo, I think it will be nice to stay there for one or two nights. This way you can do your last minute shopping before returning to the airport. An alternative is to stay the last night near Narita city. This way you have faster access to the airport.

The JR Pass can only be purchased outside of Japan, please place an order online here.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel-san,

Thank you for your reply.

With the itinerary mentioned, I see there are several options for JR Pass - theres East, West, etc.. which one should we buy?

If not going to Kyoto, but doing Narita - tokyo - lake kawaguchiko - Nikko - Tokyo - Narita, which pass should we buy?

Can we use the JR Pass to get to Nikko? Lake Kawaguchiko? Are they on the same pass/line? JR EAST?

Are there any other tourist attractions on the JR East line?

Thanks!

Hello again,

I would look at a Tokyo Wide Pass, you can purchase these directly in Tokyo or at major JR East stations.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
