Hi! My boyfriend and I are going on a 16-days long Japan-trip this july, and we really wanted to catch the fireworks-festival in Ise on the 13th. We would love to take this as a day-trip from Nagoya, using the Japan Rail Pass. Are there anyone else that is going, or have any experiences with the firework festival? And how long would it take to go by train to/from Nagoya?

Hi there!

I've not been to the fireworks in Ise so I can't tell you exactly how it will be. Having seen similar fireworks display, I can tell you that it will probably be awesome!

Here is some route information that may be useful, the travel time from Nagoya to Ise is 88 Minutes and fully covered by the JR Pass (¥ 2,450 otherwise).

The last train option leave Ise at 20:34, be sure to keep this in mind when planning your trip.

I hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks for the reply, Daniel-san!
I've actually was at the Nagoya Port fetsival some years back, so I know what you're talking about! I'm really exciting to see it again!

But, it's too bad the last train departs at 20:34, because the festival ends at 21:15! I did however try to find some train times myself from Yamadakamikuchi station, and found these times:

can I trust those, and will they in that case be covered by the japan railpass?

Thank you so much again, Daniel-san!

Hi Again!

Hyperdia is a very reliable site and you can be sure to trust it. I looked at the route you linked and you could take it. The downside is that the Kintetsu line is not part of the JR Network, meaning that you would have to pay the ticket price for that part(1850 Yen). You could of course try to book an accommodation in Ise and avoid the fully packed trains on the way back.

Let me know what you think :)

Yes, I was thinking of staying for the night as well, but had trouble finding any good hotels nearby! Besides, we want to go to Tokyo as fast as possible in the morning, so I guess it would be nice to wake up in Nagoya and rather save some time the day after. It is a bit expensive though, as it would be 3700 Yen for the two of us. I guess we'll just have to just sit down and consider if it's worth the time and money... After all, it's over 3 hours with a train to see the fireworks. Maybe there are some other things and/or festivals worth seeing on the 13th instead? Maybe something between Nagoya and Tokyo?

Anyways, that's for your help - it's been very useful!

Hi Again!

I took some time to look around for alternatives and found this website that has a good overview of festivals nation wide. Obon is celebrated every where so I am sure you will find celebrations in Nagoya too. The festival in Gifu looks very noteworthy too and is close to Nagoya, so maybe that's a good alternative.

Have a great time in Japan!
