Hi

I am travelling to Narita airport and will be in Japan for 2 weeks, first week I will be on Tokyo and the second week I will be in Kyoto,Osaka, I will have the JR Pass for 7 days which I will use when I travel from Tokyo to Kyoto and back to Tokyo for the last day, what is the most economic way of travelling in Tokyo, I will use mainly metro and subways in Tokyo, I want it to include a round trip from Narita to Tokyo and back, I heard that I can get a Suica card for 5,500 yen which include a Narita round trip plus 1,500 yen to use subway, trains etc, is that true? if not what you suggest?

Thanks
Asher

Hi Asher,

There used to be a package + Narita Express package but this is no longer on sale. Instead you can buy a discounted NEX return ticket. For travel between Tokyo and Narita Airport, the JR Pass also covers this route.

In Tokyo you may want to look at buying local tickets or day passes, such as the Tokyo Metro Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel

Thanks for your reply, another question I have, is there such a thing to buy a return ticket from Tokyo to Kyoto, using the shinkansen train or only JR pass will cover that, if the answer is yes, how much it costs? obviously exclude the Nozomi Shinkanzen. If I am going to use my JR Pass only for travelling from Tokyo to Kyoto and back, is it cheaper just to buy the ticket each way or better to get the 7 day JR Pass?

Thanks
Asher

Hi Asher,

A return ticket basically is the price of two one way tickets.

The cost of a return Tokyo - Kyoto is comparable with the price of a JR Pass. Basically the JR Pass is the better option if you plan to do any additional travel with it as well.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
