May I ask for some advice as to which rail pass to use that will be of most value for our itinerary?

We are arriving in Osaka and we'll be staying for 4 days.
We are going to Kyoto for a day trip. Then Nara on another day.

The other 2 days will be around Osaka only, mostly in the shopping district, Osaka Castle and Osaka Aquarium.
I was just wondering if there are enough Jr trains/buses that we can use it with around Osaka and Tokyo?

Can the JR pass be used in subways as well? Since Hanazonocho and Shin-imamiya stations in Osaka are both a 5-min walk from where we are staying, we might as well utilize the trains/subways.

Then we will proceed to Tokyo via Shinkansen for another 4 days. We are staying at a hotel next to Morishita Station. Will go to Disney Sea, Mount Fuji, around Shinjuku, Shibuya, Omotesando areas. Then off to Narita airport.

I am wondering if the JR pass would be worth it should we follow our itinerary or is there some other pass that we need to avail of instead?

Would appreciate some insights.

Hi there,

A JR Pass is great when you travel between different regions a couple of times. Most of your travel is concentrated around Osaka in the Kansai Area and then in Tokyo, in the Kanto area. With one longer trip between them.

With this in mind, I think that it will be cheaper to buy normal tickets. You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

Hope this helps,

Hi Daniel,

Looks like we're buying normal tickets then! Thank you for the help!
