Hi, like countless others, my wife and I have been waiting patiently for the Covid situation to ease and for Japan to open up for international tourists.

I know it is difficult to say for sure but can we hope that a trip to Japan is possible this autumn. I was hoping we could pull off a long planned Japan visit this November. Of course, there are many uncertainties, as of now, in most parts of the world. The country itself has to start receiving visitors. Then the tourist infrastructure (hotels, restaurants, the attractions et al) need to be up and running normally .

Any inputs and pointers in this regard will be most welcome and helpful,

Arigatou gozaimasu,

Rajesh

Hi Rajesh,

We're positive on Japan opening for tourism (in some form), within the coming months, and planning for fall is a save bet.

The domestic tourism market within Japan has remained relatively strong, and nearly everything is open for business.

Right now, we don't know yet what the exact procedures will be, so it is hard to give tips. For now, I would just work on your to-do list. See what you want to visit, how to get there, and read up as much as you want about Japan. Maybe even learn a bit of the language if you have the time, it will be a big help.

Looking forward to seeing you in Japan
Daniel

Domo arigatou, Daniel san, for your prompt and reassuring reply!

It's heartening to hear that you are all positive about Japan reopening soon for international travellers as well and that we can be hopeful of being there to see the autumn colours too this year. Happy also to hear that the domestic tourism market is still strong which is really important for businesses.

I understand it is not yet time to get into specific procedures but, as always, your inspiring and wise counsel is well taken. I already have an itinerary I have worked on for a few years now and I have been a keen Japan follower and, especially this forum where you and other travellers have always shared a wealth of useful information. And yes, I have been studying Japanese and hoping to get to the stage where I can take my N5 exam. To be able to use a little Nihongo there is a dream as well :-)

Look forward to being in Japan later this year...

Hi again!

Thank you for your kind words and good to hear that you're working on N5, I'm sure this will be a good help once you make it to Japan.

Fingers crossed for good Japan news to come!

All the best,
Daniel
