Hello there,

1.) Yes, you will have to activate the JR Pass at the station at Narita Airport.

2.) I am not sure what you mean with unreserved? It is about 6.5 hours from Narita Airport to Hakodate. The last train connection departs at 17:44, which you will likely to make but it would mean arriving at 00:05 in Hakodate. You may want to travel to Tokyo first and travel on the following morning.

3.) Yes, you can buy seats together.

4.) It is not possible to use a JR Pass with a student visa. Your daughter would have to buy normal rail tickets.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Dear Daniel,
Thank you very much for your answer, appreciated , I follow your suggestion stay one night in Tokyo, next morning catch JR to Hakodate. Other question I bought tickets in Jakarta and the tour counter said this is unreserved , they said that i could get the train but the seat is not reserved , depend on the other passenger get the seat, we could sit on the seat where ever available. Is that true ?

Due to my daughter which is student in Beppu Japan, she could not get 14 days ticket, when we're in Hokkaido is there any ticket that we can buy with 7 days condition as we got in Jakarta as a tourist ?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi again,

I am not sure what they mean with non-reserved, as all Hayabusa Shinkansen to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto are reserved. You can just go to any ticket office and ask the staff to be seated together. It is very easy :)

It depends on her Visa, she can only buy a JR Pass or regional pass if she has a tourist visa. Otherwise she will have to purchase normal tickets.

Hope this helps too!
Daniel
