The Hokuriku 5 Day Pass covers unlimited JR train rides from Kansai ( Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya ) to Takayama, etc, including Shinkansen rides. I am planning to take Shinkansen from Kyoto to Shinagawa passing Nagoya. The Shinkansen fare from Kyoto to Shinagawa is 13,910 yen whereas from Nagoya to Shinagawa is 10,880 yen.

Since the Pass covers travel from Kyoto to Nagoya, when I buy the ticket at Kyoto counter, can I just pay for the leg from Nagoya to Shinagawa ?

Hi there,

Keep in mind that the Hokuriku pass does not cover the Shinkansen between Kyoto and Nagoya. If you wish to travel to Nagoya, then you have to take the Hokuriku route via Kyoto - Kanazawa - Takayama - Nagoya. This is a very long route in terms of hours.

If you wish to use the Shinkansen to Nagoya, then a 7 day JR Pass may be a better option.
