Hello,

I plan to take JR train from Okayama to Nakamura station and wonder if the ordinary JR pass will be good for it or not.

Also I plan to rent-a-car near or at the Nakamura JR station. Need help how to find a rental car company so that I can make a reservation.

Many thanks!

Hi there,

Nakamura is on the Tosa Kuroshio Railway and the route is only partially covered by the JR Pass.

There is a Nippon rent a car and Toyota rent a car beside the station.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hi,
Yes, you can use your JR Pass to go to Nakamura. But from Okayama it will take you about 4½ hours.
There is a Toyota Rental Car place about a minute on foot from Nakamura Stn. I presume you will have the International Driver's Permit or Japanese license - otherwise you can't use their services.

I tried looking at their prices, and wow, very expensive - for the cheapest car, it was quoting me about 16000 yen for the first day.

Best of luck.

PS...yes, I neglected to mention the extra surcharge for the Tosa Kuroshio Railway.

Hello,

Thanks for your helpful reply.

Regarding the rental car at Nakamura station, I am having trouble booking the reservation for the Nippon car rental. I cannot locate the Nakamura station on Nippon's website. Any recommendations on finding rental cars at the Nakamura station?

I can book the Toyota reservation online but it is very expensive.

Hi,

Yes, I did not see any Nippon office by Nakamura either, which is why I did not mention it. I'm afraid I don't know why it was mentioned that there was.

Hmmm..

Curious....this outlet isn't listed on Nippon's main site at all. At any rate, hopefully it is less expensive than Toyota, which had some pretty outrageous charges.

Hi Daniel,

Thank you so much for posting more information on google map and links for their phone number. This Nippon car rental is located on the right hand side of the Nakamura station as you exit out.

Let me clarify more of my problem.

I am having trouble booking with this Nippon rental car because the Nippon website in English is not listed for the Nakamura station. That's why I cannot book it. It is in Japanese website only. I called them up and they do not speak English.

Any other recommendation?

many thanks!

Hi again,

It is a bit of a hard one, I don't have a lot of experience renting cars in Japan.

You could try the following:

1.) See if you can get a person who speaks Japanese to go through the process with you, or call for you.

2.) Try booking via a 3rd party, there are different websites that offer car rental via different agencies. Maybe one of them has this stop.

3.) Try calling their general helpline in English, you can find the details here: https://www.nrgroup-global.com/en/#footer

Good luck!
Daniel
