3 week trip expenses

Hey,

i've been working on planning my 3 weeks trip for a little while now, and i would like to know what you think about it, especially on what is related with expenses.

The itinerary:

  1. Tokyo (5 days)
  2. Disneyland (1 day)
  3. Kamakura (1 day)
  4. Nikko (1 day)
  5. Mt. Fuji sightseeing from Lake Kawaguchiko (1 day)
  6. Kyoto (3 days)
  7. Nara (2 days)
  8. Hiroshima & Miyajima (1 day)
  9. Osaka (2 days)
  10. Koyasan (1 day)
  11. Kyoto (1 day)
  12. Magome & Tsumago (1 day)
  13. Tokyo (1 day)

Expenses:

Food - 25€ a day (around 3.300 Yen)
Hotels - 35€ a day (around 4.600 Yen)
Plane - 615€ round trip (81.000 Yen)
Souvenirs/Attractions - 200/300€ (65.800 Yen)
Transportation (including 14 days JR Pass and 3 Kansai Thru Pass amongst other tickets) - 545€ (71.700 Yen)

All things considered i'm thinking about 3000€ (394800 Yen)

I'm not trying to go budget, i want to enjoy everything feeling that i have all things covered, which brings the question, is it a lot, or isn't it?

Hi there,

Making a budget is always a good thing before making your trip. I think your numbers are pretty solid too!
I have visited many places you plan to visit and can speak from experience that it is money well spend and worth every penny (or euro). You could easily cut out some costs if you wish, it would not be hard to cut down your budget for food by 1/3rd or your sleeping budget by half if you stay in hostels.

Just to make sure, have you put your stay at Koya san already in your calculations? A nights stay starts around 10,000 Yen but 16,000 is more common for a better stay.

To answer your final question, is it a lot? This of course depends on your own resources but again, I can tell you that it is money very well spend for an experience you will not forget in your life time.
