Hi, I am planning go to japan holiday for 14 days ,but i am very confusing about the subways in japan. which pass is more accessible and cheap, which area use for which pass etc.

my trip is return fly in Narita Airport, so my planning as follows, (Tokyo - Osaka-Kyoto- Tokyo)

1st day landed in Narita Airport, ( I plan to buy 7 or 14 days JR pass, but don't know which is better or more save money during my trip itinerary), after that I will from Narita Airport straight away to OSAKA.

than will stay in OSAKA 5 days 4 nights.

than from OSAKA go to KYOTO, will stay at KYOTO 3 days 2 nights.

than from KYOTO back to TOKYO, stay in TOKYO 7 days 6 nights.

my question is ,JR pass is it coverage all the subways in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto?? if not, which pass / card should I use in all these place?? which pass is more value in money during my trip?

thank you

Hello there,

The subway in cities like Tokyo, Kyoto are Osaka is run by local companies and the JR Pass does not work on them. You can buy a day pass in most cities for around 700yen.

Where the JR Pass shines is on longer routes, for instance, a return trip Tokyo - Kyoto costs about the same as a JR Pass. You can also use the JR Pass on local JR lines in Tokyo, Osaka and in parts of Kyoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
