Hi, i need your help if i should buy JR Pass or not. Also, if I should stay longer in Kyoto or Tokyo.

Here is my itinerary:
April 30 to May 10, 2017 (11 days, 10 nights)
Arriving in Osaka
Leaving from Tokyo

Side trips:
Mt. Koya - 1 night stay
Nara
Hakone
Gala Yuzawa
**Shirakawa-go (overnight) - still thinking if this is feasible with a child since I read it takes a long time with different transfers.

Travelling: 2 adults, 1 child, 1 infant.

I am also having a hard time finding the easiest & shortest way to get to Mt. Koya. Should I travel from Kyoto or after my side trip in Nara.

I am planning Kyoto - Mt Koya (1 night) - Tokyo.

Would really appreciate any help!

Thanks in advance!

Nielsen

Hi Nielsen,

It is a bit hard to say if a JR Pass would help or not without knowing the dates of travel and if you include Shirakawa-go or now. A 14 day JR Pass would not help you make savings but a 7 day JR Pass could, when tactically used to cover the longer and more expensive parts of your trip. For instance between Kyoto - Tokyo, for the train to Gala-Yuzawa and possible Shirakawa-go.

If you do include Shirakawa-go, then I would do so in between Kyoto - Tokyo.

I can give you a better count once you have a more final plan.

-Daniel
