  3. Do I need to make seat reservations to use the trains on the JR pass? If so, how do I do this?
  4. Tokyo to Hakone - Will I be able to use JR pass to Odawara and then buy the Hakone free pass in Odawara? I believe the pass is then Y400pp, is that right?

Hi there,

1.) I think a abetter option would be to look at a 7 day JR Pass and use it from Day 5 when you depart Hakone, then use it for your Shinkansen travel to Kyoto, Hiroshima and back to Osaka. These are by the the most expensive trips and you'd make good savings.

2 and 3.) Please see: https://www.jrpass.com/blogs/reserving-seats-boarding-the-bullet-train

4.) You can indeed buy it at Hakone but if you go with a 7 day JR Pass. Then I recommend going to the Shinjuku Odakyu station and buying it there, as it would then also include the trip from Shinjuku, Tokyo to Hakone.

5.) Not with the JR Pass but you can with the Hakone Free Pass (ad an additional fare) are suggested above.

6.) Hikari Express from Shin-Osaka to Tokyo station, then Narita Express to Narita Airport. Fully covered by the JR Pass.

7.) For travel times, I recommend learning to plan with Hyperdia this way you can find any route/timetable and more. It's a great tool for planning with the JR Pass. We also have a useful interactive map with all JR lines included.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
