My wife and I will be travelling from Tokyo to Kyoto in April 2018 and back to Tokyo. Whilst in Kyoto we plan to go to Hiroshima for the day by train. Will the rail card be cheapest option?

Hi there,
Yes, a 7 day JR Pass would give you considerable savings. The cost of a 7 day JR Pass is about the same as a return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen.
Any travel after that will go to your savings, a return Kyoto - Hiroshima will set you back around 21.000yen. At the very least you will save this.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
