This will be my first visit to Japan. I’m still trying to get my head around which passes I need. I need routes requiring minimal effort given limb disability plus luggage if I can’t transfer ahead. . Here is my itinerary:
Arrive Haneda Airport;
9-13 May - Tokyo, maybe day visit to Nikko and/or Kamakura;
13-16 May - Hakone, - Shizabakura festival, Mt Fuji 5 station;
16-18 May - Matsumoto - visit Nagano, Snow Monkeys;
18-21 May -Kanazawa (via Alpine route); Shirakawa go
21-23 May - Hiroshima - Miyajima, ? Himeji;
23-27 May - Kyoto
27-28 May - Osaka
Rtn Australia late 28th.

Will a Suica card suffice in Tokyo (any out of area day trips buy a ticket?) and Osaka?
Which one - Fuji Hakone or Hakone free pass???
14 or 21 day JR pass?

Thankyou

Hi there,

Are you traveling alone or will you have assistance along the way? I'm asking this because travel to Hakone, Fuji and that area is not always easy to travel around in. There are multiple transport companies and lines to consider. The same goes for a lesser extend to Matsumoro, Nagano, Alpine route and the Snow Monkey park. It can all be done but will need the proper planning beforehand.

For the JR Pass, it makes sense to use one when you do longer trips. This really starts when you go to Matsumoto - Nagano and so on and completed when you reach Kyoto/Osaka. As this period is more than 7-days, I think using a 14-day Japan Rail Pass makes the most sense for this period and then try to include as much travel with it as possible.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
