Hello :)

I'm planning a trip to Japan, and i'm trying to understand which JR Pass I should choose or even if it would be interesting for me to get one (or several regionals).

Here is the big picture of the itinerary (around 14 days) :

First part, Central Japan between Kiso Valley and Kanazawa :
- Tokyo - Kanazawa - Takayama - Narai- Juku, Tsumago-juku - Nagoya (if it's easier)

Second :
- Kyoto - Nara - Yoshino Park & Koya-san (considering renting a car for this)

Third :
- Shikoku and inner island > Also considering renting a car - Okayama

Back to tokyo (maybe with a stop to Mount Fuji)

Do you think a JR pass national would be interesting or it would be cheaper choosing Regional pass or buying my tickets one by one ?

Thank you very much !

Hi there,

I really can't say without knowing what trips you will be doing by rail and what routes you will travel. We have a useful tool that you can use for this called the JR Fare calculator. Where you can input your travels and it will tell you how much you can save.

I think a 14-day JR Pass could be useful here, but that is if you travel by rail. It may not be that much use, if you plan on getting a car.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hi Danial,

Thank you for your answer !

We would like to do the first part exclusively by rail :

Tokyo - Kanazawa - Takayama - Narai-juku - Kyoto - Nara

Does the national JR pass cover all these places? Or would be better to use Regional JR pass ?

Also, could you confirm that the national JR pass includes all the green and blue lines on the map of the JR Fare calculator ?

I hope to be more precise this time :)

Thanks again,
Réjane
